AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Valley Conservation Society will be held at Eling Court
which is off Hilden Shaw, in the Broadoak estate on Saturday 19th February 2011, starting at 10am.

If you would like to nominate someone for one of the posts of Chairman, Vice Chairman,
Treasurer or Secretary or simply sit on the Executive Committee, please let me know in writing (or email) by Saturday 5th February 2011. Please check first that the person you are nominating is prepared to stand. Alternatively if you would like to volunteer yourself, this will also be acceptable.

Similarly if you have any items that you would like included on the Agenda for the AGM, please let me have these in writing (or email), also by Saturday 5th February 2011.

In order to vote at the AGM you will need to have renewed your membership for 2011. This can be done at the door if you have not had the chance to do it sooner.

2010 has been a very productive year for the Society with stone wall and pond repairs, fence installation and new area management all undertaken successfully. The challenges of building development pressures, climate and environment concerns will keep members active throughout 2011 so your involvement is much appreciated enabling us to continue the act of conservation throughout the valley.

Pond repair

The repairs to Crisbrook pond to the wall and clay are being tested.
The work party has replaced the sluice boards and all appears to be
holding. There is no water leaking into the land behind the pond
and the repaired overflow is working correctly. A Water Rail has been
spotted on the ponds and i will upload a photo taken by John Smith.

July 9th.

This wonderful video taken with great patience by John Smith was recorded recently in the valley. It shows a parent kingfisher waiting to fly into the nest and you can hear the chicks within the nest noisily awaiting their next meal

Fly-Tipping

We have been targeted again by the mindless morons who feel it is acceptable to throw away rubbish into the countryside. This time to the path in between the lower crisbrook pond and reeds pond, builders rubble has been tipped. A padlock has been fitted to the gate so i presume B.C. knows of the problem.I feel that this act commonly occurs just after the Tovil amenity site closes for the day and drivers do not wish to carry with them the rubbish so they tip in anywhere.

Tuesday 15th June Workparty

Party assembled at 11 at Crisbrook house and Bryn organised the workers to each task. Peter H and David F to litter pick, John to mix lime mortar, David H and Dennis U to launch HMS VCS. into the pond. Duly launched Captain Bryn invited Dennis to crew. The object being to plant willow whips on the central island in Lower Crisbrook pond. The combined weight of said captain and crew unfortunately grounded HMS VCS and much to the merriment of assisting work party members took some time to row away from shore line much like the old cruise liners at Southampton (without ticker tape and band).After lunch good progress was achieved re-pointing the stone work at Hayle Mill road.
